The Colvin Adult Learning Center offers a variety of services for the student who needs adult education or language learning courses before he or she begins taking college classes:
1. The center offers a KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA in both a SPANISH GED PROGRAM and ENGLISH GED PROGRAM to prepare for the GED test.
2. The center offers ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE classes to assist the student who needs to improve his or her English skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
3. The center also offers a WORK READINESS PROGRAM which covers employability skills, effective time management and life skills, and CITIZENSHIP preparation classes.
4. The center also offers a concurrent enrollment programs known as Accelerating Opportunity - Kansas. The Accelerating Opportunity initiative in Kansas (AO-K) transforms the delivery system for adult education at SCCC by delivering career and technical education at the same time as adult basic skills instruction within a career pathways framework. Students complete short-term certificate programs asligned with labor market needs, leading to industry-recognized credentials and immediate jobs.
Students can enroll to earn their high school diploma while also enrolling in one of our six AO-K pathways. (EMT, Healthcare, Welding, Machining, Phlebotomy, Process Technology, and CDL Truck Driving)
