Program Admission Information
The following application process must be completed for all Cosmetology applicants and submitted to the Cosmetology program all in one packet with all forms complete. If you have any questions, contact the Cosmetology Department.
(1) Apply for admission to SCCC
- Complete the Application for Admissions and send to the SCCC Office of Admissions or fill out the online application located in the Admissions & Aid part of the website.
- Two official transcripts will need to be provided. Send one of your official, final high school transcripts in a sealed envelope to the Cosmetology department. The other official, final transcript will need to be sent to the SCCC’s Registrar’s Office along with ACT/SAT scores and/or GED scores. If you cannot provide test scores or are unsure about your placement, make an appointment with Admissions to take the Accuplacer test.
- Submit all appropriate academic transcripts from other colleges, universities, technical schools you have attended to the SCCC Registrar’s Office.
- Complete the TB Questionnaire TB_Form_fillable
(2) Complete the Application for Enrollment- Cosmetology Form
(3) Apply for federal, state, and institutional financial aid and Meet with Financial Aid Department
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. To send your FAFSA to SCCC, enter our school code of 008228 when you fill out the school’s portion of the FAFSA. (Follow the link below for all Financial Aid information and to fill out the FAFSA application)
- Financial Aid | SCCC
- Setup an appointment with Financial Aid and then submit the signed Financial Aid Interview Form-Cosmetology to the Cosmetology Department.
(4) Submit a Cover Letter to the Cosmetology Department
- Tell us about yourself and why you have chosen the SCCC Cosmetology Program.
(5) Provide a Copy of Your Driver’s License and Signed Social Security Card
- Provide a copy of your driver’s license and/or other valid state photo ID to the Cosmetology Department, along with a copy of your signed social security card or a working visa that allows you to work in the United States.
Please Note:
Acceptance of students into the Cosmetology Program is dependent upon available openings and the applicant’s performance on the Accuplacer exam. The applicant may need to upgrade reading and writing skills before being admitted to the program.
Two basic 1,500-hour Cosmetology classes are accepted annually, with one class beginning in August and one class beginning in January.
Applicants for the Cosmetology Program should apply no later than June 1st for the August start class and November 1st for the January start class.

Seward County Community College Cosmetology curriculum covers three main areas of study which include hair, nails, and skin. A licensed cosmetologist may choose to explore the following career opportunities:

Curriculum
AAS and B Certificate
Cosmetology at SCCC consists of a year-long certificate process where students are taught all of the essential skills to become cosmetic professionals. The program is taken in cohorts, with students sharing the same coursework throughout the entire certification process.
Students completing the Certificate are given the option to additionally complete general education courses, meeting the requirements for a two-year Associate of Applied Sciences degree.
