Soybean Grant & Biodiesel
From Field to Fuel!
Seward County Community College is part of a Consortium with Kansas University and Kansas State University funded through a grant from the Kansas Soybean Commission. This grant allows the program to purchase machinery and supplies and fund student workers to ensure the total functionality of the lab. The goal of the grant is to focus on clean fuels and teaching students the benefits of clean fuels and life skills used in the Clean fuels career path.
The SCCC Biodiesel Lab is a fully functioning lab that focuses on processing soybeans into usable Biofuel for diesel-based machinery. SCCC Biofuels utilize or partner with industry who can use the byproducts for a no waste process. Biofuels student workers and Seward County Community College’s Diesel students run the lab, overseen by the Diesel Instructors. Other on campus programs involved in the grant and Biofuels lab include the Agriculture program, Automotive and Energy programs along with the Agriculture and Energy advisory boards.
