CTE Career Fair slated for March 25

Job-seekers can explore options and meet potential employers at the popular annual Career Technical Education Fair on the campus of Seward County Community College from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, March 25. The Career Fair is open to current college students, high school students preparing to enter Career Technical Education programs, and the public. Organizers expect more than 50 business and industry partners on campus.

“We’re so excited about this event, which can open the eyes of students to all the possibilities in CTE,” said Dr. Amber Jones, SCCC Dean of CTE. “It helps them to envision what they can do with a certificate or a degree, and to map out a course for a career.”

SCCC Director of Business & Industry Norma Jean Dodge noted the benefits for employers as well.

“Through our college advisory boards and the workforce education initiatives provided by B&I, we are in constant conversation with employers,” said Dodge. “There is always a need for trained professionals, and students who are starting out in their careers bring a level of enthusiasm and work ethic that is highly desirable.”

That said, the Career Fair is open to members of the public as well.

“It’s no secret that work has changed over the last 20 years,” said Jones. “We often tell our students they can expect to cycle through multiple careers during their work life. Many times our CTE programs welcome nontraditional students who are making that kind of pivot.” Community members who are contemplating a career switch can attend the fair to browse the employer booths, network, or even apply for jobs.

“We view the Career Fair as a service to the community as well as our students on campus,” said Dodge. “That’s one of the reasons we schedule workshops in advance to help folks who need to dust off the resume and practice interview skills. They’re free and all anyone has to do to participate is sign up in advance by calling B&I at 620-417-1170.”
