Philosophy

Philosophy is the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence. Philosophy students at SCCC learn about ethics, religion, logic, ontology, cosmology, and aesthetics as proposed by the world's greatest sages. The program focuses on understanding the fields of philosophy as related to reality, existence, knowledge, values, reasons, mind, and language. Students will approach these areas through critical, systematic, and rational argument with a goal of understanding the significance of basic beliefs, concepts and attitudes as they relate to our past, present, and future in light of cultural, intellectual, economic, physical and political aspects of human development. At SCCC, students are able to complete general education requirements and a firm foundation of philosophy courses, enabling them to transfer to a four-year institution to continue their education.
