Heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration is considered one of the greater developments of the 20th century. The demand for skilled technicians is on the rise as the world continues to focus on energy efficiency. As a result of the expanding markets for refrigeration and air conditioning, along with changing technology, qualified personnel are needed both at home and abroad. The HVAC-R program at Seward County Community College is designed to teach the appropriate skills needed for this field. Students train with state-of-the-art equipment and learn techniques to diagnose, repair, and install commercial and residential refrigeration and furnace systems.
HVAC-R students at SCCC learn:
• Residential and commercial refrigeration.
• Basic and related electricity.
• Theory of cooling and heating.
• Blueprint reading.
• Safety procedures and proper use of tools and equipment.
• Installation and troubleshooting of equipment.
• Customer relations.
• By working with up-to-date equipment, such as Hot Box, a simulated air controlled environment, and Refrigeration trainer, a simulated refrigeration system.
