Automotive Technology

Overview

The automotive technology program at Seward County Community College provides students with the challenge of accurately diagnosing and correctly repairing late-model cars and light trucks. Students train to become successful automotive technicians while learning basic mechanical skills as well as complex diagnostic procedures.

Topics, skills, and concepts:

  • Receive hands-on and classroom training through the use of textbooks, videotapes, computer programs, manufacturers training materials, service manuals, training modules, and guest speakers.
  • Use up-to-date equipment such as electronic test equipment, computerized information systems, and professional quality tools to correctly and safely perform tasks.
  • Work on real problems provided through customer-owned vehicles.

Automotive Technology – CIP 47.0604

A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to repair, service, and maintain all types of automobiles. Includes instruction in brake systems, electrical systems, engine performance, engine repair, suspension and steering, automatic and manual transmissions and drive trains, and heating and air condition systems.

Students have opportunities to earn OSHA and ASE certifications as they progress through the program.

The Automotive Technology is not currently NATEF/ASE accredited, although the program is working towards obtaining accreditation.

Curriculum

Automotive Technology

The Associate of Applied Science degree is a two-year degree that prepares students for work in their chosen field after graduation. Fundamental skills in the industry are the primary focus for students seeking this degree option.

Students also have the opportunity to take certifications as an alternative to a full AAS degree. Each certificate emphasizes different and/or higher level skills in the field.
