The One Stop Shop for the Online Learner

What is Online Learning?

Online learning allows you to access your course(s) and course materials when and where it is convenient for you. Whether you are interested in taking an online class, or if you plan to take online courses while pursuing a degree, Saints Anywhere can help you achieve your goal. As an online learner, you’ll enjoy flexibility and convenience while furthering your educational goals.

While online courses are not self-paced, course materials are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Courses are designed to engage students with a variety of learning styles. Videos, audio clips, readings, discussion boards, and project-based learning activities are a glimpse at ways students interact within the course.

Online courses meet the same objectives, competencies, and transferability standards as face-to-face classes. Each student will receive the same quality education in the online environment as is offered in the classroom. Students have access to services and resources without ever stepping foot on campus. Seward County Community College focuses on customer service with a quality education.

How are Online Courses offered at SCCC?

Online courses at SCCC are offered using the Canvas Learning Management Software (LMS) online course platform. Canvas is accessible from the main college web site through the Portal link.

Saints Anywhere courses are designed to be taught using the internet.  These courses feature 100% online instruction where students and instructors have no face-to-face contact.

There are no scheduled sessions in a classroom so success in these courses requires self-discipline and the ability to work independently. Online coursework provides flexibility in scheduling, but courses still include due dates.

Some online courses may have a proctored exam requirement.  Fees for external proctoring may apply.

Students in online classes will gain access into their classes beginning the first scheduled day of class.

Since coursework is provided through the internet only, access to appropriate technology is required.

Equipment and Software

Check with your program/class for minimum requirements before making an equipment purchase.

Prior to the beginning of the course, students are required to have all necessary software and equipment operational. Students assume responsibility for their own software and/or hardware issues.  A brand-new PC is not required to take online courses, but a reliable PC less is recommended with the minimum computer specifications:

  • 5 years old or newer
  • 4 GB of memory
  • Intel i3 or equivalent
  • Webcam
  • Operating System
    • Windows 10
    • Windows 11
    • macOS 11
    • macOS 12
    • macOS 13
    • macOS 14

Reliable high-speed internet access is highly recommended. Some classes may require the use of a Webcam such as classes that use proctoring services. The use of antivirus software is strongly recommended.

We recommend avoiding mobile devices and instead using a desktop computer or laptop.  If a mobile device must be used, Seward County Community College cannot guarantee the student will see courses as the instructor intends.

SCCC students are eligible to get Office 365 for free.

Technical support is available by contacting the SCCC IT Department at itech@sccc.edu.

Canvas support is available by calling 855-691-502 or through a chat session.

Web Browsers

The web browser is the most important link between you and online courses available through Canvas. Canvas is most compatible with Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.  Other browsers such as Microsoft Edge, Safari and Opera may work properly with Canvas, but SCCC does not recommend using because they can limit communication or services offered by your instructor and the institution.  It is always recommended to use the most up-to-date versions of all browsers.

Computer Literacy Skills

You must be able to use a web browser. You must be able to use email. You must be able to use a word processing program such as Microsoft Word. If you do not possess these skills, online courses are not recommended.
