Music

Music is a multi-billion dollar industry which encourages the use of critical thinking, logic, assessment, collaboration, and listening skills. Requiring a large amount of self-discipline, diligence, and motivation, music is a degree option that provides students with coursework and skills that lead to effective study and work habits that carry over into multiple fields.

Students in the SCCC music program receive a well-balanced educational experience through classroom communication, ensemble performance, private study, and active listening. Upon completion of their studies at SCCC, students will have the necessary background to allow them to transfer to a four-year institution to complete work on a bachelor’s degree. All students at SCCC have the opportunity to join the various vocal and instrumental groups in their area of interest.

The Music Department offers a variety of courses for both the musician and the music appreciator. Students can receive an Associate in Arts degree with a major in music from SCCC.

After two years, a student will have the necessary background to allow him or her to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete work on a bachelor’s degree. With the aid of a faculty advisor, students will select courses to fit the curriculum as established by the transfer school.
