Social Science

Overview

The field of social science provides students an opportunity to study human society and social relationships. Students may specialize in a variety of areas including economics, geography, history, and political science. During their course of study, students are provided with the opportunity to examine cultural, intellectual, economic, physical, and political aspects of human development, and to understand the interactions of people locally, regionally, nationally, and globally over time. SCCC and Kansas State University have developed a 2+2 agreement which allows SCCC students to earn their Associate of Art degree in social science, then transfer those credits to Kansas State toward a bachelor’s degree in social science.

Students may specialize in a variety of areas within the Social Science field. These areas include economics, geography, history and political science. Seward County Community College can provide you with the general education requirements and basic introductory social science courses needed to transfer to a bachelor’s degree program at a four-year college or university.

Advising Information

Your SCCC advisor will help you plan your course of study and outline the specific requirements for completion of an associate’s degree. You need to contact the admissions office to visit the campus and meet with an advisor during the time of your visit. The social science course of study is designed to prepare students for transfer to a college/university program to complete a bachelor’s degree in the social science field of his/her choice.

Curriculum

Associate of Arts

The Associate of Arts degree is a two-year degree that prepares students to transfer to a four-year liberal arts school to complete their full degree in their chosen field. Fundamentals of the industry are a core emphasis, but general education requirements make up the bulk of the curriculum.
