Seward County Community College is a two-year institution offering 45 programs of study, including Adult Basic Education, certificate programs and Associate of Arts, Science, General Studies and Applied Sciences degrees. Ranked in the top 5% of more than 1,100 accredited community colleges in the U.S.  by the Aspen Institute, SCCC serves a student body of 2,500+ students ranging in age from 15 to 85, in a county with the highest foreign-born percentage population in the U.S., and a rural service area of about 50,997 in seven Southwest Kansas counties as well as neighboring counties in southeastern Colorado, the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles.

 

Responsibilities

 

Establishes and administers programs for targeting, recruitment, and retention of Special Populations Technical students in a community college setting. Develops programs and marketing materials. Visits schools and makes presentations to groups and individuals. Develop student tours of technical programs and development of career day activities. Develop technical relationships with technical faculty on campus.

 

  • The primary focus is on recruiting for special populations, as well as visiting adult education and other entities to market to both traditional and non-traditional student populations.
  • Tracking progress and enrollment for special populations.
  • Provides career and academic counseling, planning, and advising to potential students and Special populations; assists students in the development of testing strategies, writing skills, and completion of applications through seminars and workshops; coordinates applications for financial assistance and scholarships.
  • Participates in the development of student recruitment and retention plans, strategies, and written materials.
  • Visits middle schools, high schools, and colleges, speaks to groups and individual students, and meets with school counselors to promote outreach activities; coordinates community workshops and retreats; arranges visits from prospective students and parents.
  • Serves as a liaison to develop partnerships between the community college and local school systems throughout the state.
  • Creates a database of prospective and current students and/or potential degree candidates in the state.
  • Creates and distributes resource materials for student recruitment and retention programs; develops mentorship programs; analyzes trends in recruitment and retention programs; develops strategies for program evaluation.
  • Responds to inquiries from students and minority agencies.
  • Develops operating goals and objectives for the unit; implements and administers methods and procedures to enhance operations, as appropriate to the unit.
  • Participate in technical advisory board meetings.
  • When not traveling, serve as a technical recruiter in the front office of the Industrial Technology Center.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

Associate degree or at least 1 year of experience directly related to a technical field or technical education.

Salary Range:  Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Selection Process
